I wish I had more time to create this project because I really fell in love with the idea, and felt like I needed more time to capture this raw college life stuff on my own time. What I found doing these photos was I really didn't have to pose people as much as I thought I would. It came pretty naturally with stuff lying around that seemed perfect for the photos. What I really wanted to see was something gross, like kids making out in the hallway or someone so drunk they start taking their clothes of. Because, i wanted to capture more than just this unquenchable sex drive we teenagers often portray. What I really wanted was some sort of scapegoat for why we were so free with sex. Was is a coming of age thing? Or was it a self-esteem deal? I couldn't tell. But the project really made me think it over and I really hadn't up until then. Why are teens OBSESSED with sex? What part of it really make's people need multiple partners for it and so on. Most of this project has made me discover more questions than answers unfortunately, but when can't say that there isn't a complete mystery. We know that sex is a stress reliever, something that feels good, and it's a social event. But we can get all these outlets from eating ice cream or watching a movie. But what is it when we meet someone attractive and someone common to us we want to Fuck 'em? How can we even build relationships, when all we do is fuck anyway? It's a very twisted perception that we teenagers have been put under. On one side we want to act like adults and have intimate relations with people we like. But, on the other hand we also want to fill this itch to be physically satisfied. They can cross paths and often ruin the relationship or connection you originally ha d.

Holly, thanks for your feedback. I greatly enjoyed your presentation as well. You nailed it right on. Sex is definitely a big topic for today's youth, and nobody ever really stops to wonder why it is. Thanks for helping me come to a realization.
ReplyDeleteHeya, Holly.
ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad that you didn't have to pose or prop the photos for a succecful VR project. I think that reveals a lot about sex's prevelence and glorification on campuses. I was very interested in these lines: "What I really wanted was some sort of scapegoat for why we were so free with sex. Was is a coming of age thing? Or was it a self-esteem deal? I couldn't tell." This is a very interesting thought...the origins of sex's glorification are blurred and ambiguous--it sounds like you made this discovery durring the project. Nice post, Holly.
